Vital Lives

JUST AN EMOTION AWAY……You are driving in heavy traffic trying to get somewhere on time.  It seems the faster you go, the slower the traffic.  Tempers shorten and patience disappears.  A vehicle squeezes between you and the vehicle you are following causing you to jump on the brakes.  Your temper flares, angry you start to tailgate to teach them a lesson.

Situations like these test our goodwill and patience.  Our emotions can get the best of us, leading us to negative thinking and dangerous actions.  Some workplace accidents can be caused by our inability to handle emotional stress.  Proactive programs such as wellness, work-life balance and Employee Counselling programs can be helpful.

On a personal level, we have a responsibility to manage our emotions and make responsible decisions.  It is best to proactively manage our affairs to avoid a crisis rather than having to deal with one.  Examples of ways to avoid emotional melt-down:

-Think positive thoughts

- Put things in perspective

-Take mini breaks when possible

-Take stock of the positives in your life

-Interrupt your negative thoughts

-Get Physical – regular exercise can relieve stress

-Breathe to become calm and refreshed

-Smile - Laugh! – it is infectious

-Take up a hobby

-Meet people – become a volunteer

-Mend fences that have grown between yourself and family or friends

It is about exercising choices in how we react to events in our lives.
